Malden This Week
Malden This Week is a weekly live news, information and discussion program cablecast from Malden Access Television Studio B. The program is simulcast on Comcast Channel 3 and Verizon Channel 28 in Malden, Verizon Channel 39 in Melrose, Verizon Channel 34 in Stoneham, and Verizon Channel 40 in Wakefield on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. The program is re-cablecast on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 8:30 p.m. What makes Malden This Week unique from other "talking head" programs on Community Access TV, is the capability of receiving "on air" telephone calls from the viewers. This feature provides the opportunity for viewers to dialogue with hosts and guests, creating a televised community forum.
Now that MTW is being cablecast in other communities on Verizon, MTW is attempting to adjust to the new, larger viewing audience. Although Malden issues are still a priority, we will try to broaden our program topics to embrace issues of interest or concern to those viewers in Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield. That means discussion of state or national topics of interest to all, in addition to the issues in Malden. Subjects like community policing and fire safety are applicable to every community, as are discussion of state and national issues. The challenge is to not lose the local “flavor” of the program, while appealing to the larger audience. The program may be named “MALDEN” This Week, but, in order to be fair to the Verizon viewers in other communities, we try not to limit the program topics to just Malden issues. It has always been my opinion that everything that happens in the world has a ripple effect, affecting Malden in some form; whether it is a new law being debated in Washington, or a regulation proposed on Beacon Hill, Malden is ultimately affected in some way.
Malden This Week is Hosted by Ed Lucey, former Mayor of Malden; Malden businessman, Joseph Piantedosi, Jr; and Jim Dello Russo, who began the program in 1996 and serves as Executive Producer of the program. The content of the program includes local, state and national issues of interest to the Malden community.
Malden This Week is produced as a public service by DelRus Productions, Malden, MA, a division of Jim Dello Russo Productions, Boston, MA.
